Giving back?

Almost every person in the US celebrated their Fourth of July in the same fashion. Barbeque on the grill, family, drinks, and fireworks. In an effort to broaden my perspective on life, I actually took time out this holiday to get to know a side of my ever expanding family that I wouldn't usually be involved with. I mean that to say that I am generally a home body afraid to meet new people. But the reinvention of myself has brought along the confidence and will to get out there and meet new people? I mean how can Mz. Know It All limit her number of people interactions?

So anyway I dolled me and my significant other up(which believe me honey doesn't take long at all lol) and hit the road. We drove all the way to the other side of the city where it was, well let's just say not the best place to raise children. But me being one not to judge, I stuck my nose in the air ( I can't help it) and made sure that I enjoyed the down to earth nature of the people that I was around.
Hours later after I had stuffed myself with the best of the best, I gathered my crew and prepared to leave, but before I could hit the door I was stopped. The reason? The hood's fireworks were about to start!
I was taken a back.
I had heard of people who lived in the hood who set up their own fireworks displays but never hood fireworks.
My curiousity had peeked. I had to stay.
And I was glad that I did, the display was equal to the fireworks display that the city sponsors!!! And guess who this one was sponsored by?
The neighborhood drug dealers.
No, your eyes don't deceive you.
The neighborhood drug dealers sponsor the most amazing fireworks displays and they actually get the assistance of the local police department to block off the street.
Now of course my curiosity was peeked again?
How could they possibly pull permits to block off the street? After talking to a few of the local neighborhood folks I found out that this was the way that the local hustlers gave back to a community that they have taken a lot from. Their way of giving the under priveleged children in that neighborhood something that they wouldn't normally be able to see(  I mean the fireworks downtown are free but gas, snacks, and a car are always issues).
I'm not sure if I agree with the funding but the idea is definetly something that should be applauded.
What do you think?

Creating Your Own Destiny

I used to think that everything that happens to us on a day to day basis was an event predetermined by a higher power.
I no longer believe that.
Last week on my 23rd birthday I decided to try the power of powerful thinking and begin taking my business matters a little more serious.
The results?
I have secured so many more contacts, set myself up with networking events, and much more
So I challenge you all...think a little more positive...focus more on yourself...treat life like you are YOUR business!!!!!!
