Live at the Soul Train Awards

Okay so obviously I'm not at the Soul Train Awards this year for many reasons, but I am blogging during the awards so here is a minute by minute update for you all.
See pictures from the Soul Train Music Awards on my sister site http://www.truelinkmagazine.com/ .

R Kelly opened the show with a few of his classic tracks ranging from "Bump and Grind" to "When a Woman's Fed Up" performed in front of a live band before playing his new hit"When a Woman Loves". He was dapper in a classic tuxedo with a red pocket puff.
Anyone who was questioning whether or not he still had the classic R Kelly flavor definetly has an answer now. To top off his performance he performed the original version of the 1950's hit "When a Woman Loves A Man" by Percy Sledge with dancers dressed in poodle skirts and varsity sweaters.

(Sidenote Tom Joyner totally butchered Kid Cudi's name. #I'm Just Saying)

Taraji P Henson and Terrance Howard hit the stage with their amazing chemistry, hailing each other with compliments. Taraji transformed her vibrant personality into a "wicked" witch onstage and cast a spell on Terrance while tripping over her long elegant gown. But no worries, Terrance was only banished to the back of the audience. The two got a little competitive after that challenging each other to a dance competition.

See pictures of the duo at www.truelinkmagazine.com

Raven Simone looked radiant as she helped present the Soul Train Award for " Song of the Year" which went to B.O.B for "Nothing On You featuring Bruno Mars. Unfortunately B.O.B was unable to attend but Bruno Mars accepted for the both of them.
See pictures of Raven Simone at http://www.truelinkmagazine.com/

Terrance and Taraji hit the stage once again in their dancing gear and their back up dancers. Taraji killed it dancing to 'Whip My Hair" while Terrance did the stanky leg, but they both broke it down to Luda's "How Low".
See these hilarious photos at http://www.truelinkmagazine.com/
(Side note these commercials for "The Game" are really making me wish January would just get here.)

Neyo set a smooth tone with his performance of in his usual suit while paying homage to Michael Jackson with the white socks and a few classic MJ moves.

(Side note Why did Terrance Howard have a television remote in his hand when he announced Michael Baisden to the audience?)

We got an in-depth glance at the woman behind the voice as we watched Anita Baker reflect on her life as a true diva and musical genius. Mary J Blige payed homage to Anita Baker through a brief video tribute which was followed by Chrisette Michelle, Tamia, Goapele, Faith Evans, and Kem accompanied by Rachelle Ferrell on the piano channeling some of Miss Baker's energy while performing a few of her classic hits. While giving her speech she said her "highest honor" was the fact that all of the music that was performed was life, un-edited, and with a live band. El DeBarge hit the stage with his Anita Baker tribute following her speech while she danced onstage to her own song.
See pictures of the Soul Train Music Awards at www.truelinkmagazine.com

(Sidenote Genuine and Sole looked amazing together as usual.)

Eric Benet shocked us with a short performance of his new single "Sometimes I Cry".

And the award for best new artist goes to....Melanie Fiona who by so many's suprise beat artist like Nicki Minaj and B.O.B! I mean that was a well deserved shocker!!!!

Erykah  Badu's performance was truly art. I mean there are really no words for it as usual with Ms. Badu.

OMG....Wolf Blitzer learns the "Dougie" from Doug E Fresh and right after accepts an award on Eminem's behalf...only on the Soul  Train Awards.

(Sidenote that was a lame commercial for Usher's cologne I mean come on now, what was that? #Imjustsaying)

So back from the commercial break and we have the black character (so what if I don't know his name) from Family Guy announcing Cee Lo. Though we weren't really sure when the animation ended and the performance began, we definetly enjoyed Cee Lo's set.

I am definetly digging these blast from the past with a semi-performance from Tank. Look out his new single 'Emergency" and expect his album sometime in March. SWV was also fly, fabulous, and fancy while announcing Jasmine Sullivan's arrival to the stage. And oh did she blow us away with her soulful voice with a little help from Doug E. Fresh. What an honor to have a rap pioneer beat box during your BET performance. Check out her new album Back to Me.
See pictures from the 2010 Soul Train Music Awards at http://www.truelinkmagazine.com/

The winner of the Centric award is Janelle Monae with her bad self.

Mr. Ron Isley takes home the award for the Toyota Soul Train Legend Award. He spoke about some of his greatest influences, collaborating with R. Kelly, and his new little baby Ronald Jr. He even graced us with a "spontaneous" performance. Which included a our favorite Mr. Big classic "Contagious" and R Kelly had to drop by for that one. The night ended with Mr. Big and Cee Lo performing "Shout".

Right to Privacy

When you decide to become a celebrity, in exchange for the glitz and glamour you kind of agree to share your public life with fans, bloggers, critics, and journalist. Every graceful and bashful moment. Every love interest and heartbreak. Your life is broadcast via twitter, blogs, and youtube. But is that fair? No, but it's reality.
In my personal opinion (which is the only one that matters) a celebrity diva (maybe with the initials M.C0 should be given the same amount of privacy during pregancy that they require on a day to day basis. You can't pick and choose what you want us to know. Well you can but its unfair to the fans who are invited into your lives and then shut out on a whim.
And I just knew MC was gonna let it all out at her Christmas album release party, but she choked up.
And then what's to hide?
Why not let the world enjoy in your expected bundle of joy? Just a few months ago you invited us in when you wanted to croon about Eminem's obsesion with you (oh yeah you weren't talking about Slim Shady) now we aren't in again.Cold it possibly be that at 40 their are more issues to worry about surrounding your pregnancy? Could it be because you don't want the world to know that you not only married but conceived a child with a man-child?
I mean really though, pregnant or not, you're still the same mariah that serenades us with your holiday tunes.
So spill the beans already!!!!

Oh No They Didn't!!!!!

Welcome to my new blog column "Oh No They Didn't". I'll be using this post to discuss some of the mopst scandelous topics that I come across. I actually got the idea from the topic I actually am going to cover in this post.
I was at my job "kicking the shits" with a few of my co-workers. We were doing our usual, comparing interesting stories on the internet. We would always try to find a story that would get the biggest response, or should I say that they would present me with stories that hopefully I would find interesting enough to write and rant about. Often I would find something interesting but I felt as if I didn't have the outlet to do so.
One day though I saw something that made me say "Oh no they didn't!!!" and voila! One of my co-workers decided that I should have a segment of my blog dedicated to the "Oh no they didn't"s in the world. SO here it is.
My topic..."Martin Loofah King"

No my spell check didn't fail you.
For less than $20.00 you can purchase the Martin Loofah King exfoliating glove. I thoought that this was a joke, but some IDIOT named Shed Simove who goes by the alias Idea Man decided to disrespect one of the founders of the civil rights movement by putting his face on a gag gift. After researching the Ideas Man website I discovered the other tastless items he had online which range from The Butt Plug and the Cock A Doodle Pad.

What Can We Do With Kat Stacks

I have to keep in mind during this post that I do have young readers and followers so I will keep this as PG as you possibly can when discussing Kat Stacks. Okay so if you have been any where on planet hip hop you know about Soulja Boy getting caught up with with hip hop hoe Kat Stacks. And if you haven't well you can check it out @ www.truelinkmagazine.webs.com....basically Kat Stacks is putting another rapper on blast for what they do in their personal lives.

I have had enough of this nasty trashy poor excuse for a rapper. WTF is going on in the world when trash like Kat Stacks is passed around. Why is it that men like Soulja Boy put them selves in a position to get caught up like that? It's funny because while kicking it with a very close male frined he told me that Kat Stacks just needed some good well....loving and she wouldn't be like that. And that is the problem that most men have...they think that they will be that one to change that chick. That they will put it on her to the point that she won't have anything negative to say about them. That they have that magic stick. Attention all rappers!!! Tramps like Kat Stacks can't be changed. She is out for one thing only and that is to ruin lives and gain popularity. She thrives off of negativity. She makes her living off making rap dudes look bad. Then when you dummies get caught up you have the stupid face on.

So here's what I think we as the hip hop community should do about Kat Stacks. Somebody should call the police and inform them that their is a non-citizen here in the US that has been making a living off of prostitution and exploitation. Get her dumb ass deported back to Venezuela. Until then men if you see her on the street keep it moving and don't say a word. Women don't encourage this type of behavior by a tramp like this....clown her using every resource possible. And if you are really bout it if you see Kat Stacks on the street you need to mop the floor with her nasty self. I'm just saying.

Where are the "she-roes"?

In the digital media era that we are currently in children are raised more by tv and magazine's than by parents. Not to say that every parent is a dead beat but most parents have no control over what their children are exposed to on television. Young kids are raised by bet, vh1, and mtv.
This is nothing new which is why many parents have fought for positive male role models to be shown on t v instead of gang banging rap stars. And it has worked...we have Terrell Owens, who plays the role of the wholesome family and friend oriented guy, Lupe Fiasco, one of the most clean cut and conscience rappers on the scene, and heck I'll even throw Diddy Dirty Money in there.
So Mz.Know It All wants to know where are all of the "she-roes"?
When you think of black women in the entertainment industry the first names that pop up are usually Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, or Beyonce. Anybody see a problem here yet? No? Okay let me break it down for you.
Young women have the most impressionable minds. They tend to imitate the most popular celebrities in an effort to gain popularity with boys and respect and approval from their peers. So if the famous chicks are saying its fun to get down with another chick to impress guys or that being ignorant about everything except designer labels is cool, then they will aspire to do nothing but that.
Dont believe me?
Let me tell you a story about a girl named Chippy D. Her dad is one of the most famous actors in the world(morpheus). Ms. Chippy had the world in the palm of her hand, but decided that she needed to make a sex tape so that she could get the same fame as her favorite porn star/reality star (Kim Kardashian). Prime example.
This was a girl who had everything and gave it all away.
Our stars need to realize what type of image they portray. They need to accept responsibility for their actions and stop trying to cope out of the situation(Fantasia).
I'm just saying....

Giving back?

Almost every person in the US celebrated their Fourth of July in the same fashion. Barbeque on the grill, family, drinks, and fireworks. In an effort to broaden my perspective on life, I actually took time out this holiday to get to know a side of my ever expanding family that I wouldn't usually be involved with. I mean that to say that I am generally a home body afraid to meet new people. But the reinvention of myself has brought along the confidence and will to get out there and meet new people? I mean how can Mz. Know It All limit her number of people interactions?

So anyway I dolled me and my significant other up(which believe me honey doesn't take long at all lol) and hit the road. We drove all the way to the other side of the city where it was, well let's just say not the best place to raise children. But me being one not to judge, I stuck my nose in the air ( I can't help it) and made sure that I enjoyed the down to earth nature of the people that I was around.
Hours later after I had stuffed myself with the best of the best, I gathered my crew and prepared to leave, but before I could hit the door I was stopped. The reason? The hood's fireworks were about to start!
I was taken a back.
I had heard of people who lived in the hood who set up their own fireworks displays but never hood fireworks.
My curiousity had peeked. I had to stay.
And I was glad that I did, the display was equal to the fireworks display that the city sponsors!!! And guess who this one was sponsored by?
The neighborhood drug dealers.
No, your eyes don't deceive you.
The neighborhood drug dealers sponsor the most amazing fireworks displays and they actually get the assistance of the local police department to block off the street.
Now of course my curiosity was peeked again?
How could they possibly pull permits to block off the street? After talking to a few of the local neighborhood folks I found out that this was the way that the local hustlers gave back to a community that they have taken a lot from. Their way of giving the under priveleged children in that neighborhood something that they wouldn't normally be able to see(  I mean the fireworks downtown are free but gas, snacks, and a car are always issues).
I'm not sure if I agree with the funding but the idea is definetly something that should be applauded.
What do you think?

Creating Your Own Destiny

I used to think that everything that happens to us on a day to day basis was an event predetermined by a higher power.
I no longer believe that.
Last week on my 23rd birthday I decided to try the power of powerful thinking and begin taking my business matters a little more serious.
The results?
I have secured so many more contacts, set myself up with networking events, and much more
So I challenge you all...think a little more positive...focus more on yourself...treat life like you are YOUR business!!!!!!

Disaster in Haiti

Last week on January 13, 2010 I remember watching CNN with the tv muted with headlines reading, Disaster in Haiti , or something to that effect. From what I could see there had been some kind of earthquake but I thought it wasn't that bad just an average earthquake probably a few dozen injured some buildings torn down right?
Wrong.

As I continued to surf the web that day at work the stories began to roll in. Thousands and thousands were reported dead. I witnessed a young girl trapped under buliding cry out for her mother and father who were probably dead. I saw a three day old baby with part of his scalp falling off. People were frantic and crying.
That's when it hit me...this was more serious than I thought it was.
That evening as I watched CNN my tears served as glue and my eyes were stuck to the screen. I couldn't believe what had happened. This was a tragedy worse than Katrina. I thought about all of the orphans crying, the parents who clung to dead children, and the hundreds of dead bodies that were thrownin the back of trucks to be transported.

And for a second I thought just like millions of other people, how could God allow something like this to happen to his children. It wasn't until the reverend from the 700 club, Pat Robertson, put his foot in his mouth by saying that the Haitians were cursed, that I realized that we as humans really need to stop trying to find an explanation for why things like this happened. I think when we do that it gives us a reason not to help others. I have actually heard people say thatthe Haitians shouldn't be helped because they practice voodoo and are devil worshipers.
This is inhumane.

First who are we to decide who deserves to live or die? Just because someone doesn't believe in the same things we do means that they deserved for the earth to swallow them whole? God didn't teach anyone to choose who we love and don't. Just as God loves all of his children and we should to. What part of religion does it say that children should go without proper medical attention, food, clothing, and water?
The worst part about it is that the aftershocks from these earthquake's will last for years and years.
So I have decided to do whatever I possibly can to help the Haiti in it's time of need.
Below I have compiled a list of ways that you personally can help to donate also before you read the methods  I have compiled a list of statistics so those of you who don't believe that this is serious cn see for yourselves how serious this is!!!!!
People please do whatever you can to help these people.

Statistics
A Haitian official at the United Nation's said on Wednesday that 100,000 of his countrymen had died in the earthquake.

Some 132 people were pulled alive from beneath collapsed buildings by international search and rescue teams since the Jan. 12 disaster

About 609,000 people are homeless in the capital's metropolitan area, and the United Nations estimates that up to 1 million could leave Haiti's destroyed cities for rural areas already struggling with extreme poverty.

Barbies and Queens

Recently thanks to the new female rapper on the scene, Nikki Minaj, everrytime I turn around I hear some young girl talking about how much of a Barbie she is. It's driving me crazy!!! What is it about being a Barbie that is so intriguing?

What is a Barbie?
Plastic.
So if you are trying to be a Barbie then you are trying to be a big chuk of fake plastic right?
That means fake hair, fake lashes, fake nails, and most of all fake personalities.
Being a Barbie doesn't represent beauty, it represents trying to fit a mold. So when you say that you are a Barbie you are basically saying that I am not good enough so I have to change myself into something that I have been taught all of my life to think is the image of perfect.

As a young girl I used to pop the  heads off of my Barbies, disgusted to find out that they had no brains on the inside.
Now as a grown woman I'm popping the heads off all of the fake plastic Barbies to expose your emptiness.
Not only that how can we take Barbie and relate her to some one who raps about having sex for money or having threesomes? Come on ladies let's get it together and realize that when you idolize a hooker you act like a hooker? What happend to the days of Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, and Yo Yo when women rapped about uplifting themselves and being queens and divas?
So all the real women let's make this the new motto....
I'm not a barbie I'm a queen.
